Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 August 2026

Better Call Paul (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website bettercp.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We handle personal data in line with the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) and, where it applies to visitors in the EU and UK, the General Data Protection Regulation.

Who we are

Better Call Paul is a web design and branding studio based in Hong Kong. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights described below, contact us at paulmuller@bettercp.com.

What we collect

  • Quote requests. When you use our quote form we collect your email address and the details you give us about your project (service type and platform preference).
  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to our newsletter we collect your email address.
  • Direct contact. If you email or message us on WhatsApp we retain that correspondence and any contact details in it.
  • Technical and usage data. Our host and analytics tools automatically record information such as IP address, browser type, device, referring page, and pages viewed.

We do not collect payment card details through this website, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Why we use it

  • To reply to your enquiry and prepare a quote.
  • To deliver a project we have been engaged for, and to support it afterwards.
  • To send our newsletter, where you have asked to receive it.
  • To keep the site secure and understand how it is used, so we can improve it.
  • To meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations.

Where the GDPR applies, our lawful bases are: your consent (newsletter), the performance of a contract or steps taken at your request before entering one (quotes and project work), our legitimate interests (site security and improvement), and legal obligation (record keeping).

Cookies and analytics

This site uses cookies that are necessary for it to function, and analytics cookies that help us understand traffic in aggregate. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do. The only analytics we use is Jetpack Stats, which reports visits in aggregate. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or third-party tracking.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business, and only as far as they need it:

  • Hosting and site services — Automattic Inc. (WordPress.com and Jetpack), which may process data outside Hong Kong.
  • Email and newsletter delivery. Substack Inc., which hosts the Better Read Paul newsletter and may process subscriber data outside Hong Kong.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where we are required to disclose by law.

Because these providers operate internationally, your data may be transferred to and stored in countries outside Hong Kong. Where the GDPR applies, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and project records for as long as needed to provide the service and then for as long as we are required to retain business records — ordinarily up to seven years. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under the PDPO you have the right to ask whether we hold personal data about you, to request a copy of it, and to request correction of anything inaccurate. Where the GDPR applies you also have the right to erasure, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email paulmuller@bettercp.com. We will respond within 40 days as required by the PDPO, and within one month where the GDPR applies. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong, or to your local supervisory authority.

Security

We use HTTPS across the site and take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal data. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised, and any material change will be reflected here.
